Retired Professional NBA Legend, Stephen Jackson is a huge cannabis advocate, and has never been shy about his cannabis use.
“I smoked my whole career. I had a hell of a career, didn’t miss no games…”

He’s enjoyed a ton of success in the NBA, winning a championship in 2003 with the San Antonio Spurs and after retiring, coached BIG3’s Trilogy to their 2021 Championship. Today he and former NBA teammate Matt Barnes host the “All The Smoke” podcast, fostering authentic, candid conversations around basketball, cannabis, culture and more. Cannabis has helped athletes in a variety of ways, for Stephen it allowed him to relax after games;
“As far as coming down after the games, relaxing, it helped. Before the games, nobody can play high, especially in the NBA. It’s a high level of competition, and guys are great, so nobody can play high, but after the games, guys need to come down and relax, because it’s a physical sport.”

Earlier this year the National Basketball Association made headlines around the world passing on cannabis testing for a second straight season. Due to the unusual circumstances surrounding last year’s season, the NBA suspended all random tests for cannabis and shifted focus to random testing for performance-enhancing products. Many athletes hoped this would lead to a permanent change and on Wednesday October 6th, 2021 progress was made;
“We have agreed with the NBPA to extend the suspension of random testing for marijuana for the 2021-22 season and focus our random testing program on performance-enhancing products and drugs of abuse.”
