Puff, Drive, Repeat: Jesus of Golf Tees Off with Cannabis and Long Drives

In the ever-evolving world of golf, where tradition meets transformation, one man is taking the sport to new heights—and it’s not just his long drives that are making waves. Meet Jacob Golliday, the man dubbed the “Jesus of Golf.” A former college baseball player sidelined by injury, Jacob’s journey from the diamond to the green was far from conventional. After relocating to Humboldt to immerse himself in cannabis culture, he took a swing at professional long-drive golf, combining his passion for the game with his love for cannabis.

Over the last five years, Jacob has ignited the canna-golf movement, breaking down barriers and pushing the boundaries of what it means to be a modern-day athlete. Known for his relaxed demeanour, golden flowing beard, and big hits, he’s bringing a new, vibrant energy to the sport and advocating for the benefits cannabis has provided him in both training and recovery. With a tour bag packed with top-shelf Humboldt cannabis, Jacob is not only breaking stigmas but redefining the way athletes approach wellness.

Today, Jacob sits down with Jay from Sports Cannabis to share his journey, insights on cannabis in athletics, and his mission to change the game, one puff at a time. Let’s dive in and take a swing with Jacob Golliday as he answers some rapid-fire questions about his career, cannabis, and what keeps him driving forward.

Jay | Sports Cannabis:

Jesus of Golf in three words?

Jesus of Golf:

“Creative. Golfer. Cannabis.”

Jay | Sports Cannabis:

Jacob, you’ve been known to pair a perfect swing with a perfect strain. What’s your go-to cannabis strain before a big long-drive competition, and why?

Jesus of Golf:

“I would say if I could still get the old-school Gorilla Glue Number Four or a little Pave Runt from my boy’s Surf’s Up, which I always got. Those two are right there.”

Jay | Sports Cannabis:

Golf and cannabis—are two worlds that don’t always overlap. What’s one misconception people have about cannabis in sports, and how has it helped your performance on the course?

Jesus of Golf:

“I think in the earlier days, it was looked at more like alcohol. You weren’t really supposed to consume it. It was going to affect you in ways that people thought were going to have a disadvantage or ruin the performance. But I think that’s kind of been disproven by a lot of athletes. The stereotypes have changed. For me, it’s just recovery, just the mental recovery of being able to shut off.”

Jay | Sports Cannabis:

You’ve been an advocate for cannabis use in sports for years now. What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in the public’s perception of cannabis, especially in golf?

Jesus of Golf:

“The normalization of it. It’s around, there’s plenty full of it, and it’s just cool to see.”

Jay | Sports Cannabis:

Let’s talk recovery: You’ve spoken about cannabis helping you recover from injuries. How has it helped you heal and stay in the game longer, especially after a killer long drive?

Jesus of Golf:

“It’s just mental recovery, whether before or after. It’s being able to get in that mindset or just being able to shut off. It helps with the mental game.”

Jay | Sports Cannabis:

You’ve been an entrepreneur and influencer. How has cannabis shaped your business ventures outside of the long-drive competitions?

Jesus of Golf:

“Being able to mingle golf and cannabis is cool. It has let me work with brands like Timeless, Weedmaps, Homie Surf’s Up, Canna Dips, Arcadia, and all the Humboldt culture. It’s been fun to do. On the outside, it’s been able to do a lot of fun projects and be a part of many great PGA events. It’s been cool to see the growth.”

Jay | Sports Cannabis:

Okay, let’s go golf talk: What’s your favourite club to swing when you’re aiming for that monster drive, and why?

Jesus of Golf:

“I’m always going with something from Cobra. Right now, it’s a DS adapt they just came out with. So we’re swinging the Cobra.”

Jay | Sports Cannabis:

What’s the biggest mental hurdle you face when stepping up to the tee for a long drive? And does cannabis help calm those nerves or give you clarity?

Jesus of Golf:

“I think it’s being able to achieve that success and winning. It’s always hard to get to that winning aspect and get to that finish line. Cannabis helps with the preparation of that. Being able to envision yourself getting to that finish line and getting the dub.”

Jay | Sports Cannabis:

In the long-drive world, it’s all about distance. Do you ever feel like cannabis gives you an extra “boost” or more of a “relaxed focus”?

Jesus of Golf:

“I think both. It’s being able to control your adrenaline and stay relaxed.  If you pick the right strain, it’s going to help you, maybe not everyone, but it does help a few for sure.”

Jay | Sports Cannabis:

You’ve competed against some of the best long drivers in the world. What’s the most valuable piece of advice you’ve received from a fellow competitor that you still carry with you today?

Jesus of Golf:

“It’s the willpower to win. Being able to put everything else aside and to know golf and long drive are just a sport. To be grateful for life and have gratitude that you’re able to do what you do. At the end of the day, you’re just winning by being able to participate in all these events and be able to play for a little bit of money.”

Jay | Sports Cannabis:

As a top athlete and cannabis advocate, what’s one piece of advice you would give other athletes—especially golfers—who are curious about integrating cannabis into their training or recovery?

Jesus of Golf:

“Just study the plant and know what you’re getting into. Understand that people use it for holistic reasons. People use it for spiritual reasons. It’s out there for everyone and anyone. The most crucial part is understanding what you’re smoking or consuming.”

Jay | Sports Cannabis:

To wrap things up, if you could pick a famous golfer—past or present—and share a joint with them on the course, who would it be, and what would you talk about?

Jesus of Golf:

“I would go with a classic golfer like Chichi Rodriguez or Ben Hogan. You know what, I think I’m gonna take it back to Moe Norman. I wanna smoke a joint with Moe Norman and just hear about hitting the perfect golf ball over and over and over again. All you Canadians up there, you’re gonna know Moe Norman is for sure. He’s a cultured icon of golf and quite a unique individual.”
