NFL Legend Adam Jones Champions Cannabis for Athlete Wellness: A Game Changing Journey

In the competitive world of athletics, peak physical condition and mental resilience are non-negotiables. For many athletes, the health and wellness journey has led them to explore unconventional avenues, notably cannabis. Once stigmatized, cannabis is now gaining recognition for its therapeutic benefits in sports, offering athletes a natural alternative to pharmaceuticals. Retired NFL Corner Back Specialist and cannabis advocate Adam Jones’s personal journey underscores the transformative power of cannabis in athletics.

Jones first garnered attention at West Virginia University, where his skills set him apart before the Tennessee Titans drafted him 6th overall in the 2005 NFL Draft. Throughout 12 seasons with the Titans, Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals, and Denver Broncos, Jones established himself as a force to be reckoned with, earning accolades such as NFL All-Rookie Team, PFWA All-AFC selection, First Team All-Pro selection, and Pro Bowl honours.

Since retiring from professional football, Jones has redirected his energy to advancing the conversation around Sports Cannabis. Adam’s experience with cannabis began as a means of coping with the aftermath of intense surgeries, where conventional painkillers fell short.

“I’ve had to deal with a neck and shoulder surgery, which was when the opioids were prescribed.  Those medications came with a long list of side effects like mood swings, depression, and addiction.  With Cannabis, there are so many different strains that can help you dial in the way that you need to.  For me, now that I’m older and putting my body first, I don’t want to take those pills if I don’t need them.”

Reflecting on his post-surgery recovery, Jones shares,

“After my first neck surgery, the pain was unbearable. I was eating Percocets by the second.  I started smoking weed without papers and started getting into live resin. The relief that I got from the resin and the weed was so much better than taking the Percocets and other stuff that it made me get dialled into everything with cannabis.  I started learning about terpenes’ different strains, understanding what they can do from a wellness perspective, as well as the ability cannabis has to improve mental health.  I got so dialled in that now I can break down a person’s stress or what they are going through and recommend whether to go the Sativa or Indica route…”

Today, he’s changing the game with Berner, Founder of Cookies, partnering on a cannabis line that’s sparked the attention of cannabis connoisseurs across North America,

“The whole PacMan project and movement has been about finding a strain that improves mental health, wellness, pain, depression, anxiety, and sleepless nights. Berner and I’ve been working on this project for probably about seven or eight years, popping flowers, smoking different strains, and talking about different ideas. Collectively, we picked the best product to release for the community. Adding There’s no reason for me to go and do a half step, so when we did this, we put our feet on the ground and made sure to do it right. It’s just about smoking with the best and being the best, so being with Berner and Cookies is a no-brainer…”

Looking Ahead, Jones believes that the path forward is through education,

“The main reason I shared my story was because I realized that this was my chance to let people know it’s okay to have an issue or an underlying medical issue.  It’s all about knowing what you’re dealing with, understanding the triggers and learning how to get better.”

As perceptions around cannabis evolve, athletes like Adam Jones are pioneering a paradigm shift in sports medicine. Their experiences not only challenge stereotypes but also highlight cannabis’s potential to enhance well-being. The Pac-Man project serves as a beacon for those seeking natural, effective alternatives in their fitness journeys, urging a reevaluation of cannabis’s role in the pursuit of wellness.

Today, athletes are rewriting the narrative of sports and wellness, guided by pioneers like Adam Jones. With each success story, the integration of cannabinoids into mainstream athletics gains momentum, promising a future where health, performance, and innovation converge.
